Saturdays: Watercolor Studio [Adults & Teens]

Beginners and more experienced students alike will increase their skill and enjoyment of this exciting medium. Students will learn basic techniques such as wet-on-wet, glazing, masking, lifting, and controlling edges. We’ll learn when and where to use these methods to create beautiful artworks as students develop their own personal style. Drawing will also be emphasized, providing a strong foundation for each painting.

Materials: Bring to first class: watercolor paper (pad or block) 140# Cold Press 100% cotton approx. 12" x 16"; tube watercolors - small to medium set (recommended brands: Winsor and Newton, Cotman). We will discuss the rest of the supplies (ie: brushes) during the first class.

About the Teaching Artist
Susan Mitrano is a certified K-12 Art Teacher who has taught in Princeton, Bridgewater and Montgomery schools as well as community art centers in NJ and PA. She has a BFA from Syracuse University in graphic design with a minor in photography. After a 15-year career as a designer and art director, Ms. Mitrano earned her BA in Art Education at The College of NJ. She is long time watercolorist, studying with Robert O’Brien, AWS in Vermont and others locally. She studied ceramics with Ursula Kaplowitz and enjoys working in many kinds of clay. She is also an avid printmaker and loves to share her knowledge of art history and art-making with the children she teaches.
