Description

In this drawing class, the focus will be on the following concepts: learning to see form and value, developing accurate proportional relationships, perspective, shading, and composition. Each week, we will work on a different drawing problem that addresses one of the above concepts. You may work in the medium of your choice: pencil, charcoal, monochromatic watercolor, or pen & ink. Demonstrations will be given in a different medium each week and you may choose to work in the medium demonstrated, or another of your choice.

 

Materials List:

Choose a list based on your preference (pencil, charcoal, watercolor).

Pencil: 8B, 4B and 2B drawing pencils; eraser; 9x12” drawing paper. Charcoal: a thick piece of soft vine charcoal (½ inch thick); kneaded eraser, 11x14” newsprint pad. Watercolor: 9x12” pad of 140# cold press watercolor paper; #8 and #12 pointed round brush; tube of burnt umber or black watercolor paint. Pen & ink: 9x12” pad of Bristol board or other paper suitable for ink; fine point pen (Uniball, Micron, fine point Sharpie, etc.) in color of your choice.

About the Teaching Artist
Anne Kullaf is a contemporary painter working in a variety of media. Her paintings utilize the principles of drawing from direct observation combined with efficient brushwork and a limited palette. She is a faculty member of the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey, the Hunterdon Museum of Art, and the Center for Contemporary Art. A summa cum laude graduate of the University of Bridgeport, Connecticut, she received a Bachelor of Science in graphic design and fine art and also studied painting at The Art Students League of NY. In 2014, she was painter-in-residence at Bryan Park, NYC and was recently invited to teach a watercolor workshop at the Princeton University Museum of Art. More about Anne here.
