Summary

This two-day intensive workshop will introduce the process, the materials,
the tools, and the bookbinding structure to create a hardcover fabric book with
fabric pages. In-class discussions will briefly cover the history of textile books and
the selection of proper materials and tools. Participants should be at least 15

Description

This two day intensive workshop will introduce the process, the materials, the tools, and the bookbinding structure to create a hardcover fabric book with fabric pages. In-class discussions will briefly cover the history of textile books and the selection of proper materials and tools. Participants should be at least 15 years old, and should have some experience with sewing.

Day one: Learn important fundamentals of bookbinding with fabric, simple tools, and methods. Participants will make the cover of their fabric book.
Practices and materials will be discussed as participants familiarize themselves with the skills and safety measures needed for working with book forms, hand
sewing, and machines.

Day two: Learn how to assemble fabric pieces in order to create the inner fabric pages. Participants will finalize their books by sewing fabrics into their book structures. Structural variations and decorations will be examined through examples from the instructor's collection.


                

 

About the artist

Suzanne Coley is a contemporary artist who specializes in painting, design, poetry, and bookbinding.  Her  meticulously crafted books and haunting poetry are in numerous private collections in Germany, Spain, Italy, Russia, South Korea, and the United States.  Since learning how to carve wood at the age of five, Suzanne has had a passion for art.  She holds a Master of Humanities degree with concentrations in classical literature and philosophy.  She believes the secret to understanding the mind of  a culture requires traveling through its memories.  And,   memories are best kept alive through books.

Workshop will be able to accommodate beginner and experienced textile artists

The instructor will provide supplies for binding
