Thursday: Watercolor Studio: Pure & Simple with Anne Kullaf [Adult]

In an intimate setting with plenty of one-on-one instruction, this class focuses on simple, basic techniques with emphasis on drawing, brushwork, color theory and mixing skills. Each class will feature demonstrations with a specific concept in mind (eg. wet-into-wet, dry brush, etc.) so that students can see how the technique is successfully applied. Students will develop skill in drawing with a brush, understand the importance of values and their role in creating a successful painting, learn to control paint based on the amount of water and type of brush used, as well as how to create strokes that are bold and confident.

Materials Needed (cost will be around $50-$75): Artist grade watercolors, one tube of each of the following colors: ultramarine blue, primary red, Winsor yellow, 140 lb cold press watercolor paper, 9x12 size (Canson studio grade paper is fine), #7 pointed round brush, #10 pointed round brush, container for water, paper towels.

About the Teaching Artist: Anne Kullaf is a contemporary painter working in a variety of media. Her paintings utilize the principles of drawing from direct observation combined with efficient brushwork and a limited palette. She is a faculty member of the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey, the Hunterdon Museum of Art, and the Center for Contemporary Art. A summa cum laude graduate of the University of Bridgeport, Connecticut, she received a Bachelor of Science in graphic design and fine art and also studied painting at The Art Students League of NY. In 2014, she was painter-in-residence at Bryan Park, NYC and was recently invited to teach a watercolor workshop at the Princeton University Museum of Art.
