Tuesday: Into Plein Air Painting in Oils [Adult]

This class is for intermediate artists who have some experience working with oils, but who have not yet ventured out to paint on location. The first class will be held indoors at WWAC, the materials needed will be discussed in the first session, but you can purchase the things on the list prior to the first class if you feel comfortable doing so. In the case of inclement weather, class will be held indoors at WWAC and we will focus on sketching in pencil to better understand perspective, proportion and other factors that can be challenging in an outdoor environment.

Materials Needed: Plein air easel appropriate for painting with oils (see website for description of what the teaching art uses). 9x12 pad of Arches paper for oil paints. 1/4" , 1/2" and 1" soft synthetic angled flat brush for oil paints (not bristle). Small fan brush, soft synthetic. Disposable paper palettes. Turpenoid odorless mineral spirits in the blue and white can (NOT Turpenoid "natural"). Walnut or linseed oil. 2 small metal or glass containers with covers to hold Turpenoid and walnut or linseed oil. Painting rags. Small flat box to carry your wet painting home in. Oil paints (artist grade, not student paints) in the following colors: Burnt umber, Prussian blue, Ultramarine blue, Alizarin crimson, Cadmium red light, Yellow ochre, Cadmium yellow light, Titanium white​.

About the Teaching Artist: Anne Kullaf is a contemporary painter working in a variety of media. Her paintings utilize the principles of drawing from direct observation combined with efficient brushwork and a limited palette. She is a faculty member of the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey, the Hunterdon Museum of Art, and the Center for Contemporary Art. A summa cum laude graduate of the University of Bridgeport, Connecticut, she received a Bachelor of Science in graphic design and fine art and also studied painting at The Art Students League of NY. In 2014, she was painter-in-residence at Bryan Park, NYC and was recently invited to teach a watercolor workshop at the Princeton University Museum of Art.
