Description

Form follows function a principle that challenges jewelry designers to channel their creative ideas into wearable accessories.  In this class students will use a variety of unconventional materials to create unique works of jewelry.  Students will be encouraged each class to incorporate new materials, including hardware store findings, buttons, paper, recycled materials, and other choices students may wish to bring.  We will combine traditional and untraditional jewelry supplies in order to make a piece of wearable jewelry each class.  Project prompts will be based on principles of design such as texture, positive/negative space, symmetry, and balance.

About the Teaching Artist: Nina Milizzo

Nina Milizzo holds a degree in jewelry design from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Her studies included a rigorous education in drawing, painting, jewelry fabrication, and painted jewelry design renderings. She has studied under local artists in the Princeton area, and is eager to share her own knowledge in art and design with students. She was a participant in the Arts Council of Princeton’s program called Artists Teaching Art, during which she learned strategies for translating her own art practice into the classroom.
