Acrylic Painting is now online. This class will be both a one-on-one experience with Barbara Schaeffer and a great opportunity to connect with other students with similar interest. You must have internet on a device with a built in camera to participate.  Need a creative outlet and want to learn to become a better painter? Acrylic painting is the perfect solution! Join Barbara as she shows you how to handle this water-based medium to create satisfying and creative artwork. Each week a new subject will be explored including landscape, floral, still life, or seascape. Basic techniques to be covered will include paint properties, how to mix color, tinting and shading, brush techniques, and composition. Participants can bring their own reference or work along with me and the subject the teacher provides each week.

About the Teaching Artist
Barbara Schaeffer is a design professional with 20 years of experience in Product and Surface design. As the owner of Barbara Schaeffer Design she has produced collections for the gift and home furnishings industries. Her clients have included Lenox Brands, Macy’s, Polo/Ralph Lauren and Avon Products. Barbara honed her skills as an artist while creating the surface designs for Dinnerware and Textiles. She has begun a second career using her sense of color and composition as a painting teacher certified by Grumbacher. Recently she has brought her skills to residents in Assisted Living residences and as a member of the Senior Outreach program sponsored by the Princeton Arts Council. She has always had a keen interest in crafting and has been teaching a craft program she designed for seniors as well as an instructor at Michaels Art and Craft store, where she has taught every age group. She brings her love of simple materials and fascination with everyday objects to the projects she creates for her students. She refines each one, so that each item can be done by those with little or no expertise. Her greatest satisfaction comes from seeing the pleasure each student experiences when they make something they never thought they could do. Barbara holds a BFA from The University of the Arts and has studied at The School of Visual Arts, Parsons School of Design, and Mercer County Community College.
