Description

How many times have you visited galleries in a museum and wished you could do that? The luminosity of oil paints has intrigued us all. The beginner class will include an introduction to the art of oil painting especially for people who have never painted in oils, or who have been away for a while and would like to get back to the basics. We’ll start from the beginning: setting up your palette, mixing of paints, brushstroke and application, and then move onto learning to look at your subject and light source as we create meaningful artistic expressions. In both classes, a variety of subject matter, including still life, landscape, and portraiture will be part of our focus, with students being encouraged to use personal inspiration in their work. For the Intermediate class, some prior experience in oil painting is preferred.

Materials Needed:  Basic paint colors; brushes (Round, flat, bright, filbert, fan); ODORLESS thinner/spirits and a clear glass or metal container with a cover to hold it; three 8x10", three 11x14" canvas boards; palette (basic: A roll of freezer paper OR a 12x16" disposable palette pad); Miscellaneous recommended: disposable gloves, rags or paper towels, apron or smock
