Summary

Do you have a story you’re dying to tell? Do you sometimes think, “I could get published if I just knew where to start”? This class, a hybrid of instruction and workshop, will help nonfiction writers fast track their dreams of publication. We will discuss freelance article genres (feature, personal essay, op-ed, review, humor), how to select a topic and article type and workshop one piece to create the most compelling lead, bring your unique voice to the forefront, trim the fat and make your article irresistible to editors.

In addition to getting one article honed for publication through instructor and class-based feedback, we will cover the fundamentals of persuasive pitching; finding your target audience, researching where to submit, crafting a killer pitch letter (including best practices and what-not-to-do’s when approaching editors) and how and when to follow up.
