Members: $63.0 (Ages 13-18 must be registered as household members)
Non Members: $70.00

Materials fee: TBD to be paid directly to instructor (includes paper pattern, zipper, notions)

Late fee of $25 will apply from September 25, 2018

Description

Intermediate level.  Everything you learned in our Sewing Basics class will be the foundation of skills and techniques you'll need for basic garment construction. Students will learn more about, pattern layout, fabric cutting, and finishing techniques for garment construction. Everything from taking measurements, to sewing invisible zippers, machine buttonholes, and more! This class is a perfect opportunity for you to take your sewing skills to he next level and enjoy the creative process of making clothes.  Students must provide their own portable sewing machine with extension cord. Fabric will be purchased by student due to nature of personal preference and desired garment size to be made.


About the Teaching Artist: Maria Maurio is an apparel and textiles designer, an artist, natural dyer, and a chemist.  Having grown up in a local family business, she was exposed to the many facets of design as well as salesmanship.  Maria went on to study apparel design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City specializing in couture. After a successful career designing for many well know companies in New York City and Philadelphia she opened her atelier in Trenton, New Jersey.  Maria creates artisanal quality accessories utilizing hand dyeing, hand block printing, and various other resist methods. The platform for the business is based on eco-friendly, natural dyes and sustainability. Her designs are sold nationally in boutiques and museum stores.

In addition to teaching various fashion design courses at the university level, she lends her time to judge student work for Philadelphia University, Drexel FCCLA. Maria also conducts beginner and master workshops in natural dyeing, indigo and various Japanese resist methods.
