The focus of this workshop is to introduce watercolor to students who have not worked with it previously or who have limited experience using it. (click title for more info & materials list)

The workshop will demonstrate techniques such as wet-into-wet, color mixing via layering, composition and color theory.


  • 9x12 pad or block of Arches 140 lb cold press paper
  • #6, 8 and 10 pointed round watercolor brushes (Princeton brush makes some nice ones in synthetic or sable, your choice)

  • Watercolor palette or enamel butcher's tray

  • Paper towels

  • Transparent watercolor paints in the following colors (any brand but please buy professional artist quality):

    • Winsor blue (green shade)

    • French Ultramarine blue

    • Alizarin crimson

    • Winsor red

    • Raw sienna

    • Winsor yellow

About the Teaching Artist: Anne Kullaf is a contemporary painter working in a variety of media. Her paintings utilize the principles of drawing from direct observation combined with efficient brushwork and a limited palette. She is a faculty member of the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey, the Hunterdon Museum of Art, and the Center for Contemporary Art. A summa cum laude graduate of the University of Bridgeport, Connecticut, she received a Bachelor of Science in graphic design and fine art and also studied painting at The Art Students League of NY. In 2014, she was painter-in-residence at Bryant Park, NYC and was recently invited to teach a watercolor workshop at the Princeton University Museum of Art.
