Description

Discover the art of improvisation! Improv teaches acting, storytelling, character development, and comedy skills through the use of games. Exercise and improv skills in spontaneity, creativity, and listening skills, to name a few benefits that improv provides even if you never want to step onto a stage and perform for people. In this session, we will teach the basic skills needed for improvisation like the core concept of “agreement,” creating a character from nothing, and developing an interesting and funny scene from a random suggestion. Most of all, it’s FUN! No prior experience required!

Teaching Instructors:  Serena Jain and Ed Liu
Serena Jain and Edward Liu are local actors reviving their love of the dramatic arts as adults, performing in short plays and improvisational theater in Princeton and beyond. Serena is a North Carolina native, whose love for acting began as a young child through “Bollywood” cinema. She pursued theater and performance arts in her formative years and dabbled in it in high school and college. Discovering comedic and dramatic improvisation as an adult has been a magical experience and she continues to pursue the art form through performances, workshops, training, and play. She is hopeful that the magic of improvisation can prove to be as transformational for others as it has been for her. Ed was born in New York City and did drama through junior high school, currently aspiring to a career in voiceover acting and improv comedy. Learning improv has been a transformational experience for him, extending beyond the stage to broader applicability to professional and personal life as well. The two have trained together and separately with the legendary Second City, the Annoyance Theater in Chicago, the People’s Improv Theater (PIT) in New York and Chapel Hill, the Magnet Theater in New York, Jody Wood/JW Actor’s Studio in Princeton, and the Philly Improv Theater (PHIT).
