Description

Emphasis will be on mixing flesh tone, understanding value, edge modeling and paint application. Mr. Ennis will offer demonstrations throughout. All levels welcome.

About the Teaching Artist: John Ennis has been recognized with over a dozen national and international awards for his portrait work. His subjects include hospital presidents, university deans, corporate CEO's, board chairmen, physicians, judges, headmasters and other notable national figures as well as family portraits. His work is included in the collections of the U.S. Navy, Drexel University, M.I.T., Princeton Healthcare, Boston Latin School, University of Pennsylvania, Massachusetts General Hospital, Temple University and many more. He was educated at the Maryland Institute, College of Art (MICA) and the Art Students League of New York.

MATERIALS:

Oil Paints:
These colors are essential to the program.
Perylene Red 37ml
Portland Grey Light 37ml
Portland Grey Medium 37ml
Portland Grey Deep 37ml
Winsor & Newton cadmium orange 37m

Any artist grade oil paint:
burnt umber 37ml
yellow ochre 37ml
titanium white 37ml or larger
ivory black 37ml 
alizarin crimson permanent 37ml

Other paints are optional:
Any artist grade oil paint:
ultramarine blue 37ml
viridian 37ml 
cadmium yellow (light or med) 37ml
cadmium red light 37ml

Brushes:
#'s 2,4,6,8, 10 flat or filberts
Synthetic or bristle
1.5" natural bristle gesso brush. Not synthetic!

Canvas:
1 16"x20" stretched or canvas board

Medium
2.5 oz. Refined Linseed
2 oz. Gamsol or similar odorless mineral spirits
double medium cup

Other tools:
12"x16" paper, wood or glass palette 
metal trowel-type palette knife (2" blade or similar)
paper towels (Viva)
small trash bag (like a grocery store bag)
