Joy Kreves and Ivia Sky Yavelow
charcoal, salt wash, moss, collage and resin on tracing paper on canvas
30 x 24 inches

Works in this series are from a few mother and daughter, Joy Kreves and Ivia Sky Yavelow , created together, and reflect family relationships. Ivia made a charcoal drawing on tracing paper before Joy applied other elements, and mounted it on canvas. Their individual artistic voices are both tangled and intertwined.

Joy Kreves grew up in Illinois and moved to NYC after graduate school in art at Illinois State University. She has been living in NJ and exhibiting in the broader area since 1984. Kreves ran a contemporary gallery, Joy Kreves Fine Art in Frenchtown, NJ, 1984-1990.
Ivia Sky Yavelow is her daughter, and grew up in Ewing, NJ. She majored in art at Bard College, where she studied with sculptor Judy Pfaff. Following graduation she landed a summer residency at the Edward Albee Foundation. She currently runs Portals, a small works gallery at New Hope Arts.
